Unfortunately, monobenzone does not re-pigment the skin. On the contrary, monobenzone is a de-pigmentation therapy that removes skin pigment and hence is only considered in patients whose vitiligo is so widespread they may benefit form depigmenting their remaining skin so as to have one uniform albeit white skin colour. Patients must be psychological suitable for this treatment and understand the potentially irreversible nature of the treatment.

Cryotherapy (freezing of the skin) and pigment lasers are other treatments that can be considered for depigmentation therapy
