Generalised vitiligo, due to its rapid spread and aggressive nature, needs early specialist intervention to stabilise the disease and prevent further unnecessary spread.
The following are also signs of unstable vitiligo that may potentially spread rapidly and widely, hence requiring urgent specialist medical attention.
- A clear history of a rapidly increasing number of vitiligo lesions
- Vitiligo lesions associated with inflammation (that is redness and itch or soreness)
- Vitiligo that shows different shades of colours usually between the patient’s normal skin colour and the typically white of vitiligo
- The appearance of small circular white spots of vitiligo the size of confetti
